Russia tells foreign diplomats to leave Kyiv

Russia's foreign ministry warned foreigners, including diplomatic staff, against staying in Ukraine. Moscow says it will keep striking Kyiv and other cities.

Key facts

  • The ministry said Russia would continue "systematic attacks on military targets" in Kyiv and other cities.
  • Russia made a similar appeal in May 2026. Fifty countries condemned it as a threat in a joint statement at the UN, and Western embassies stayed in Kyiv.
  • Kyiv has faced intense drone attacks in recent weeks, including strikes on the Southern and Northern bridges on 2 and 3 October.

Ukraine's response

  • Ukraine's foreign ministry denied reports that Western embassies were preparing to move to Lviv or to Poland, saying it had received no such notice.
